Fleeing violence and persecution in their home country of South Sudan, hundreds of thousands have fled to Uganda for safety from 2014 to today. 20% of the 70,000 refugees in Kiryandongo Refugee Camp are children.
One of the biggest challenges these refugees face is the high rate of school drop-outs due to high school fees and related school costs. Providing a safe environment for children to learn and grow is essential to their development and enables the community to flourish.
Established by Reverend Sosthen Amin & his wife Reverend Veronica Karaba in 2015, Jan Care School provides necessary education to children between the ages of 3 and 12 in the refugee community of Kiryandongo Cluster H. The leadership and staff of Jan Care School ensure a quality education for all students, encouraging them in their faith and creating opportunities for students to discover and develop their God-given talents. Open Eyes has had a deep relationship with Sosthen & Veronica and has aided in establishing and building the school. All funds will go directly to support a child's education or provide necessary support for the school to run properly.
